How it got its name
The letter records the quadrant the berg was first sighted in — C is 180°–90°E, the western Ross Sea and Wilkes Land — and the number is issued in sequence. A trailing letter marks a fragment that broke off a parent berg, so this one has not been logged as a fragment.
